power
I think it was an accident when
it fell out of the tree and landed
on my arm.
This brown, 6-legged thing just
trying to blend in
with the bark.
It would have been simple
to smash it
with my palm and
wipe it
on my shorts but
I chose to blow it away
with my breath—
the breeze cradling it to
the safety of the saplings.
It was just as easy and
nothing had to die
for being in the wrong place
at the wrong time.

Wonderful poem. I love the way that one gentle decision relates to the title. So thoughtful. Congratulations on your first publication. I look forward to reading more of your work!
Great poem. Congratulations!
