An Anniversary Poem from Far Away
I know people who ache
to be away from home,
gone to far places, who
feel alive only if climbing
the walls at Rhodes
or watching puffins fly
off the islands in Maine.
But you, my love, have given
life a flavor that stays
with me when I travel
to Greece or Maine, that makes
me long for our kitchen
where I could make coffee
or wash yesterday’s dishes.
