The Wisdom of Owls

The owls fled after Katrina,
but returned years later.
I hear them call
in the depths of night,
a plaintive cry
for all the lost wisdom,
blown away like
the uprooted pines.

Diane Elayne Dees’s poetry has been published in many journals and anthologies.
