All American Superstore Pharmacy by Sara Cosgrove

All American Superstore Pharmacy

You know you’re in America when
The pharmacist asks if you’d like
To purchase your frozen burrito, chewing gum, and box of cheap wine
At the pharmacy counter.

It’s convenient, to be sure,
But isn’t it odd?

The person counting your pills,
Who’s prepared to discuss side effects and contraindications,
Is more likely to scan barcodes for candy bars
Than talk trazodone
And explain why, despite many modern conveniences,
You still have to cut your pills in half.
